Embarking on a journey to Rwanda is like diving into a nation that has rebuilt itself after a dark chapter in its history. Upon arriving in the "land of a thousand hills," the natural beauty—of coffee, banana, and potato plantations—feels even more pronounced against the inspiring story of this country, which, exactly 30 years ago, faced a massacre.

Rwanda is a lesson in how humanity can rise again. After the 1994 genocide, when more than a million people lost their lives in just one hundred days, the world witnessed the incredible power of reconciliation in a country that has become a symbol of resilience. The Reconciliation Villages set up by the local government are the most significant example of this. Established as communities where victims and perpetrators live side by side, these villages aim to foster reconciliation, providing a safe space for dialogue, forgiveness, and the rebuilding of relationships once marked by violence. By creating opportunities for interaction and cooperation between former enemies, these spaces pave the way for a more cohesive and harmonious society, where diversity is respected and celebrated.

Today’s Rwanda is also incredibly clean and safe, a result of its dedication to the well-being and order of its citizens and visitors. For example, every last Saturday of the month, the nation pauses, and the entire population dedicates the morning to community service activities.

Additionally, Rwanda stands out for its commitment to women's empowerment. After the genocide, a significant number of women became heads of households, and the country embarked on a journey toward gender equality. Today, Rwanda is internationally recognized for having one of the highest representations of women in parliament globally, with over 60% of seats held by women. This commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities has not only elevated the status of women in society but has also contributed to the country's sustainable socioeconomic development.

And I cannot speak about Rwanda without mentioning its most famous residents: the mountain gorillas. In Volcanoes National Park, these majestic creatures inhabit one of Africa's last wild sanctuaries. Coming face-to-face with a gorilla, observing its human-like movements and curious expressions, is an indescribable experience that creates memories to last a lifetime. Rwanda has become a dream destination for wildlife lovers, offering a unique opportunity to experience the intimacy of these magnificent primates in their natural habitat.
